Our Laser Cutting Capabilities

Chiggo provides various laser cutting technologies, each is specially matched to different materials to achieve the best possible outcomes. We offer high-quality services for both metal and plastic laser cutting. Our laser cutting machines can handle material thicknesses ranging from 0.02"(0.5mm) to 1.0"(25.4mm), achieve a minimum feature size of 1x1mm, and produce very narrow kerfs, some as small as a fraction of a millimeter.

  • CO2 laser cutting
    CO2 Laser Cutting

CO2 Laser Cutting offers high-quality cuts with a smooth finish on non-metal materials such as wood, acrylic, and plastics. Also, it can cut through thin metals.

  • fiber laser cutting
    Fiber Laser Cutting

Fiber laser cutting provides precise and efficient cutting for thin to medium-thick materials. It has high electrical efficiency, can safely cut reflective metals like copper and gold without damage, and requires low maintenance, popular in metal fabrication.

  • Nd:YAG/Nd:YVO Laser Cutting
    Nd:YAG/Nd:YVO Laser Cutting

Nd:YAG/Nd:YVO₄ lasers support both pulsed and continuous operations. In pulsed mode, they are effective for cutting or marking hard or thick materials and offer precise cutting or marking with minimal thermal impact. This technology is particularly suited for intricate and detailed tasks, such as manufacturing medical devices, micro-welding, and precision engraving.

Advantages of Laser Cutting

Laser cutting, with its precision, speed, and flexibility, brings numerous benefits across many industries. Chiggo’s laser cutting service can deliver customized solutions, help streamline production, reduce costs.

Advantages of Laser Cutting

High Precision

Laser cutting, controlled by Computer Numerical Control (CNC) systems, is highly repeatable. Because it's a non-contact cutting process, the workpiece does not distort due to mechanical or thermal forces. These allow for exceptional precision in dimensions, with tolerances of ±0.004" (±0.1 mm).

High Versatility

Besides the ability to work with most materials, laser cutting can be used to make parts from simple to complex cuts that require tight tolerances and intricate designs. It can also be used to engrave and mark parts with elaborate logos and images.

Relatively Low Cost

Unlike CNC machining, laser cutting does not involve tool wear due to friction, as the laser cutter head does not contact the raw material. Additionally, laser cutters do not require clamps or other workholding equipment, resulting in fewer maintenance and servicing requirements. These mean less time is spent procuring, programming, and calibrating machinery and tooling.

Cutting Quality

The heat from laser cutting processes affects very minimal areas on the component and has no effect on the tolerance of the laser cutting parts. Additionally, the cutting often results in minimal burring, producing smooth edges and narrow cuts, which requires little post-processing to obtain finished parts.

Laser Cutting Design Guidelines

To achieve the best possible results while minimizing errors and material waste. Here are some key guidelines to consider when preparing designs for laser cutting:

Minimum Part Size

The smallest size for a part should be 6.3 mm (0.25 in.) to ensure it can be handled and cut accurately.

Minimum Feature Size

Features must be at least twice the material thickness, with a minimum feature size of 1 mm (0.04 in.), to ensure integrity and definition.

Distance Dimensions

Adhere to ISO 2768 standards for all distance dimensions, with a typical size tolerance of +/- 0.2 mm (0.008 in.) for length, width, diameter, and location.

Maximum Material Thickness

For carbon steel, the limit is 25 mm (0.98 in); for stainless steel, it is 15 mm (0.59 in); for aluminum, 15 mm (0.59 in); and for copper, 12.7 mm (0.5 in).

Kerf Width

The slit size is approximately 0.5 mm (0.02 in.), which must be factored into design dimensions to account for the material that will be removed by the cutting process.

Edge Condition

Expect vertical lines on the edges of laser-cut parts, which is characteristic of the laser cutting process.
